Ce livre énumère les rendez-vous des Jeux Olympiques d'été depuis 1896.
Outre la couverture, une image du Défilé d'ouverture des Jeux de 1936 est imprimée en début et fin de livre. Cette image fait apparaître l'aspect mécanique de la gestuelle collective.
Le livre s'ouvre et se ferme par 16 pages vierges. Ensuite l'image du défilé est agrandie, en positif au début, en négatif à la fin du livre.
Une date et une ville et le numéro de l'Olympiade : le rouge indique que la trêve a été rompue par soit des attentats, une bombe, la guerre.
Dans chacun des 300 livres, une indication manuscrite, au crayon de papier, propose une information : noms d'athlètes, un fait, le nombre d'hommes et femmes ayant participé aux jeux. Chaque information permet de retrouver un fait, une histoire, des informations médiatisées : une mémoire que chacun peut s'approprier.

This book examines the Olympics starting with an enlargement from a 1936 photograph that shows rows of athletes doing push-ups.
The enlarged grain approaches an abstract image printed in both negative and positive, evoking the human drive and desire for spectacle behind the games. Years and locations for each city are printed on pages in gold ink, except where red ink indicates games marked by major conflict, demonstrating the reductionist tendency of historical memory.
1896-2012 by Francine Zubell (Marseille, Editions la Fabrique Sensible, 2006, ed.300, $43.00 softbound) recollects the meeting of the Olympic Summer Games since 1896. On the front and back covers is an image of the parade of the opening of the games of 1936, appearing to be a mechanical aspect of the gesture. The book opens and closes with 16 imaged pages. Then the image is enlarged in the positive at the beginning and negatively at the end of the book. The internal pages, all of vellum, have the date and a city’s name and the number of the Olympiad: red indicates that the sequence was broken because of the unexpected–a bomb, the war, etc.
